In October 2004 Pastor Scott and his wife Peggy spent a week in Monrovia, Liberia preaching and ministering during the revival services held at 1st Baptist Church Oldest Congo Town. They stayed with Pastor Joseph Johnson and his family during their visit.

God has burdened their hearts to help the people of Liberia. The needs are great. Living Hope Community Church is currently assisting an orphanage in Monrovia with its monthly expenses.  If you feel like God is asking you to get involved after reading the report below, please email Pastor Scott at gdluvsu@hotmail.com or write him at P.O. Box 31951, Aurora, CO 80012.

Pastor Scott's report:

To say that life is harsh in Liberia is a profound understatement. The country is in its first year of relative peace after fourteen years of war.

The United Nations has more soldiers on the ground in Liberia than any other place on earth.
Liberia

Many children between the ages of 2 and 16 have known nothing but war. They’ve never been to school. Psychological and literal scars abound. Unemployment is running somewhere around eighty percent. Checkpoints and machine guns are plentiful. No electricity. No running water. Hunger is common. Political instability remains. There is a desperation that is hard to communicate. Words can’t really describe it. Yet we know that God is working in Liberia.

We experienced many profound moments in Liberia.

Three separate times we had pastors look directly at us and plead on behalf of their people with the words, “We’re hungry.”

We visited orphans living in a metal building that leaks every time it rains. We went out of Monrovia into the bush to visit two churches planted in the heart of the Muslim community.

We walked the streets of downtown Monrovia amidst the burned out shells that used to be buildings. We stood in the Lutheran sanctuary where six hundred fifty people were gunned down. And each night of the revival we attended we witnessed dozens of people coming to the altar at First Baptist Church Oldest Congo Town to receive Jesus Christ.

Things are currently moving in a better direction in Liberia.  A new leader has been elected.  A new government is being formed.

We are asking God for wisdom. We are asking you to pray with us.

Please pray for:

a. Pastor Johnson and his family.

b. God’s wisdom as to what part we can play in supplying food to our friends.

c. God’s wisdom as to what we can do for the orphans regarding their housing. We are currently pursuing the idea of building modular housing units in the States and shipping them to Liberia to be assembled for the orphans. If you’re interested or have ideas about that, please contact us.

The needs are great, but God is good! His remnant in Liberia is praising His name and serving Him wholeheartedly. Our brothers and sisters in Christ need our help. If you are willing to help, please contact Pastor Scott at 720-560-0872 to discuss what can be done to alleviate the suffering. God bless you!
